MM: Tell us about your band .. your influences and what took you down this genre of music
Hey Metal Gods Meltdown, thanks for having us on. This is John Side (guitar), Rai
Storm (bass/voc) and Vic Fury (drums).
All 3 of us are heavily into rock’n’roll from the 50s to the 90s, ranging from early
rockabilly to The Beatles, passing through Led Zeppelin, Sabbath and Eagles to the
Ramones and Pistols, detouring at Queen, passing through the glam of Poison,
Mötley and turning around at Sound Garden, Nirvana and the grunge sound.
We’ve tried to meld some of those influences into a heavy sound with some melodic
harmonies thrown in for good measure. That’s pretty much our rabbit hole into
today!
MM: Are there any themes or messages you aim to convey through your music?
Some of our tunes like “Breakfast For Millionaires”, speak out against conformity
and the way in which so many of the current generation have simply settled. On our
most recent single “Tannen’s World”, we’re trying to convey a world turned upside
down by big money, wannabee dictators and a breath-taking apathy shown by
people towards it.
We’re living in crazy times…
MM: What can fans expect from you in the near future—new music, tours, collaborations?
There’s more singles coming! “Tannen’s World” is a first taste of our upcoming 2 nd
album. We’re starting to tour around our hometown of Barcelona and planning some
kind of tour outside once we get our dates sorted.
MM: Are there any dream venues or festivals you’d love to play?
Rai: Glastonbury or Leeds are some big ones.
Vic: At the Coachella music Festival.
John Side: At Hellfest in France or Rockfest
Barcelona.
MM: What’s been your most memorable live performance so far, and why?
Rai: I loved our New Year’s 2024 show at Craft
Vic: I agree with Rai, New Year´s Eve at Craft Was brutal.
John Side: New years Eve for sure.
MM: How do you prepare for a show, both mentally and physically?
Rai: I’ve learnt to avoid the cold brews till after the show. Now it’s hot coffee. Maybe
a lil’ shot’o’whisky.
Vic: Mentally I try to relax, I listen to the list of songs we´re going to play and above
all I stretch my arms and legs to warm up before the show.
John Side: I just wait for the moment with a drink and try to focus on people around
us, I jump into the rush with a lot of energy but depends on the day, it’s not the
same all the times.
MM:What emotions do you hope to evoke in fans when they watch your band live
Rai: Just want to share freedom and fun
Vic: Enjoy, dance and sing along with us.
John Side: Evoke the spirit of Rock And
Roll, things like Party, Drinks and good
times good people, poetry and music.
MM: Do you have any favourite pre-show
rituals?
Rai: Shoot the shit with the band and forget about worrying!
Vic: Place everything I need around the drums and check it two or three times.
John Side: Talk, share some drinks and smoke a cigar.
MM: How do you handle criticism or comparisons to other bands in the scene?
Santi: Everyone’s got their opinions. Let em.
Vic: I´m not worried about the opinions of those who don´t like our music.
John Side: I like to hear good advice from people who loves the band, haters no
please.
MM: What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a band, and how did you
overcome it?
Santi: Getting shows booked on time. Getting hard out there, know anyone who
needs a hard rock trio that sings in English, writes original tunes and plays the heck
out of their favourite bands’ songs too? Call us up and let’s hit the road!
Vic: I agree with Rai, playing live these days is very difficult.
John Side: I think we learn for good all the time, music it’s full of things to resolve
and we try to face problems all the times it’s possible.
MM: Where do you see the band in five years, and what’s the ultimate goal for your
music?
Santi: Get a few more records out, tour Europe, the US and Asia.
Vic: On tour in Europe making people dance to good rock & Roll.
John Side: Playing around the world. The ultimate gold it’s make
music for us and for the people.
MM: Last song you listened to?
Santi: Harry Nilsson’s “Everybody’s talkin”
Vic: Cream, by Prince. Spectacular.
John Side: Just My imagination by Rolling
Stones.
MM: Tell us why we should check out your band
We write our own songs, everything’s rehearsed and recorded in our practice space
(check our Instagram to see us play in studio) and our own John Side does all our
mixing. We’re a homemade rock’n’roll band that plays with heart and sings their
lungs out.
Hop aboard the Whisky Sugar train.
MM: Final Words for your fans our readers.
Santi: Love y’all and thanks for listening.
Vic: Be happy, don´t bother others and enjoy Rock & Roll.
John Side: Keep On Rockin’ and listen Whisky Sugar for Good .
