Ultimatium interview 19/01/24
MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences
We’re Ultimatium, progpower metal band from Finland, founded 2001 in
Suomussalmi. We’ve made four full-length albums and are currently making fifth.
MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from
Lyrics-wise inspiration comes from games and scifi-movies nowadays, earlier on
the career it was more from general life and events. Musically, the inspirations
come from playing music, I just start playing keyboards and eventually some riffs
come out.
MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song ?
I think Mindcaptives, from Virtuality, is at least my favourite song, it captures the
essence of current Ultimatium best
MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own)
and why
Seeing Ronnie James Dio for the last time, in Qstock Oulu, 2009, playing with Heaven & Hell. It
was such magical event, sun setting down, his sound roaring in the summer evening
MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with
Our latest album, Virtuality: Getting that album done was accomplishment itself,
recording vocals with five lead singers, plus the fact that the album is 65 minutes
long, so that was hard work
MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time
Dream Theater: Images & words and Seventh Wonder: Mercy Falls
MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have
people watching you?
Yeah, it was our first public gig, we played three songs in front of ~1000 people in
Suomussalmi, in celebration for Marko Kemppainen, who won silver medal in
Olympic skeet. That was certainly weird, for us and the audience, mostly older
folks, including town administration etc, we playing powermetal, people expecting
something bit more traditional
MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.
Mostly posters of Stratovarius
MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other
person
Hard to name just a one person, but I’d go with Richie Blackmore on this one
MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?
To make great, long, progressive albums, that’s our current priority
MM:If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?
That’s a debate we’ve had for 20 years now and we still have not decided which
song we would do as a cover. So if I’d knew the answer, we would have done it
already :D Probably something old, and maybe forgotten
MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band
You should buy and listen us if you like progressive, symphonic powermetal that
has high production quality and a lot of beer, sweat and tears put into :)
MM: Four words to describe Ultimatium
Unconventional
Limitless
Tremendous
Inspirational
