Slomo Casino interview 27.03.23
MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences
Hi there methods! We’re Slomo Casino (Jonny & Jack), an Indie-Pop Soul duo
from Stockport, Manchester. We’re influenced by everything from The Smashing
Pumpkins, Radiohead and Jeff Buckley to Otis Redding, Bill Withers and Mavis
Staples.
MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from
Our songs tend to start with a simple melody or chord progression which generally
helps to inform Jack (prime lyricist) in a certain lyrical direction. A big thing for us is
that the songs must sound great with nothing but and acoustic guitar and vocal to
us at it’s heart - if not it’s for the bin.
MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song ?
Robbie Williams - Angels
MM: What can we expect from (Band Name) live
The year of 2023 is for is focused around writing and recording for us so there
won’t be many shows coming up unfortunately - however there’s plenty of release
content upcoming to look out for!
MM: What do you like best and worst abt touring
Love the people, hate the food...
MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies
We’re suckers for a party so prime time Stones, Ozzy, Motley Crue
MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own)
and why
We both saw Mavis Staples perform at Primavera Barcelona 2022 in a dark auditorium and
without realising it were both crying our eyes out at the sheer brilliance
MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with Slomo
Casino
Our debut EP Marshmallow came out late 2021 and we played at a sold out
hometown show to launch it was was the best feeling
MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time
(Jonny) - ‘Grace’ Jeff Buckley & ‘Siamese Dream’ Smashing Pumpkins. Very much
a couple of desert island disks i’ll be listening to forever
MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have
people watching you?
(Jonny) Yes - I played a battle of the bands at 15years old (rap metal out fit called
‘The Mighty Gigolos’) and we brought an entourage of friends from school down to
cheer us on. They won us the competition! A very lenient introduction to gigging
life...
MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.
(Jonny) Limp Bizkit/System Of A Down
MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other
person
Jimmy Paige
MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?
Our upcoming single “The Altar”
MM:If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?
At the minute - it would have to be ‘The Weight’ by the band. Such a great tune for
us to butcher...
MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band
We deal solely in ear worms that you can’t shake
MM: Four words to describe your band
Smooth, Soulful, delicate and tolerable
Final Words for your fans and our readers
