Sixx A.M.
This Is Gonna Hurt
Label: Eleven Seven
This is Impressive, with a retro sound and vibe, it may be too soft and mellow for some tastes. However listening to this, IS A MUST.
Inspired by Nikki Sixx’s accomplished photographic project, Sixx, together with James Michael, and DJ Ashba, have created a well crafted and thought provoking album.
Title track 'This Is Gonna Hurt' kicks off in a frenetic style. A very listenable and enjoyable song .
It definitely gears you up for more of the same, you hope. Love the lyrics
'Lies Of The Beautiful People' is a song co-written with Rob Zombie and is a very thought provoking number, it's all about how people are judged by how they look and not who they really are, and those who desperately strive to be “perfect “, but never can be.
'Are You With Me Now' slows the tempo down, with lyrics ... "Everything looks rotten through the eyes of the forgotten “ .. sung with passion by Michael James. Fantastic.
'Live Forever' is a ideal track to make you feel ... “yeah life is worth fighting for! “ ... even when it seems you are at rock bottom.
This is a inspiring anthem.
Next up is 'Sure Feels Right', a track that reminds me of a certain Kid Rock song. This is a lazing on the strip tune ... that’s if you are lucky enough to live on the Sunset Strip ... although you may just have to put up with a day at Morecombe, so close your eyes and dream! But hey it's fabulous and chilled out.
A change in tempo brings the dark track 'Deadlihood' ... “The sun is shining and everything’s dying” ... gives you the some idea of what goes on in Nikki Sixx's head.
This album is full of emotional highs and lows, as we go into the very melodic and soft 'Smile'. The feel good slightly poppy 'Help Is On The Way', a good track, but it seems to me to be out of place on this album.
Fast forward on to 'Oh My God', another song which makes you think and feel ... “She was born 6 am on a New Years day, in a Alley at the heart of where the homeless children play “ ... Awesome, absolutely awesome song.
'Goodbye My Friends' the second to last track is again a master piece, leading onto the penultimate 'Skin'. An epic telling ballad. I wonder If Nikki has ever thought of making these albums into a stage show?
These are impressive tracks that will stay in your head all day, fuelled by amazing vocals and guitarmanship. It will light a fire in your soul.
If you don’t like it at first keep listening and this album does really grow on you, and if you do, it just might change your life.
