MM: Tell us about your band .. your influences and what took you down this genre of music
Red Giant formed out of the ashes of our previous band The Dave Simpson Trio. The DST were a more straight forward blues rock band, so when we started writing new music that was no longer that we knew we had to change our name to suit it. So Red Giant was born.
Red Giant is very much a 90s rock/grunge/Britpop style band and I think what took us this way is that we lived through that period and it was a big part of our lives. Bands like Oasis, Nirvana, Alice in Chain, etc mean a lot to us and are heavily inspirational to us.
MM:Are there any themes or messages you aim to convey through your music?
Many. We are not afraid to talk about the darker side of life and how its not always sunshine and rainbows.
A lot of our songs deal with subjects such as loss, bullying and mental health.
It really important for us to not sugar coat things in anyway and our darker sound really conveys the subject matter.
We want our music to be a comfort for people who are struggling and for it to be a light in their life.
If we can do that then that's a success.
MM: What can fans expect from you in the near future—new music, tours, collaborations?
We have just released a brand new 4 song EP and are currently working towards our next album which we hope to release in late 2027. All things permitting.
As for tours or gigging. That's becoming ever increasingly difficult as venues are shutting down left right and centre. We hope to be able to get out there more though in the future.
MM: Are there any dream venues or festivals you’d love to play?
All of them. Hahaha. It would be brilliant to get on a festival lineup like Download or something. Our drummer has always dreamed of playing Glastonbury. Maybe one day.
MM: What’s been your most memorable live performance so far, and why?
We have had so many, but pushed probably playing the legendary 100 Club in London.
Standing on that stage playing music you cannot think of all the legendary bands that have played that same space. It was unreal. So many of our heroes have played there and to be in the same space really was something special.
MM: How do you prepare for a show, both mentally and physically?
Good Question. I don’t really know. I think we all have different ways of dealing with it. Mainly though we just get on with it as its what we do.
Get on the stage, panic and hope it all goes well.
MM:What emotions do you hope to evoke in fans when they watch your band live
The main emotion is a feeling of belonging. We’re all outcasts and rejects in the band that never really found where they belong. So when we play live and people are into what we doing we all become one.
Also we want people to feel like they matter. It's so easy in this day and age to feel like nothing. We want people to know they are valued by us and with us for the ride.
MM: Do you have any favourite pre-show rituals?
Not really. I like alone time before i go onstage. Something about being away from everyone gives me the ability to focus myself and calm down.
We’re not backstage putting on our lucky socks though.
MM: How do you handle criticism or comparisons to other bands in the scene?
We don't really let that in. They do what they do. We do what we do. If people want to argue and say nasty things then we let them because at the end of the day we believe in what we’re doing and we believe in our music and thats all that matters.
MM: What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a band, and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge is being heard in an oversaturated market that's dominated by rich kids auto tuning their way to the top.
I don't think we can overcome it. So we just make the music we want and hope that the people that support us keep supporting us.
MM: Where do you see the band in five years, and what’s the ultimate goal for your music?
Hopefully still making music but it's very hard to say as the future of music is very sketchy right now.
The ultimate goal is to be a successful touring band, but we feel this can only a dream now.
MM: Last song you listened to?
The last song I listened to was The Masterplan by Oasis. We all have one, but most never get to succeed in theirs.

The reason you should check us out because we talk about real subjects and in so doing hope that one of our songs resonates with you and brings you comfort.
It's very important to us to make people feel better with our music.
