Poison Oak Interview 11/12/20
MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences?
Poison Oak is made up of five members, Ray, Russell, Lachie, Chris and myself (James). We are from Townsville North Queensland Australia. We draw a lot of inspiration on a wide range of artists, for myself I listened to a lot of home grown Australian artists, and name a few Bernard Fanning and Paul Kelly.
MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from?
Anywhere and everywhere, mainly from experiences from life, mixed with what kind of music we are all listening to at the time.
MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song?
That’s a hard one, we really don’t have a favourite song, for myself that answer would change on a daily basis.
MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2020?
We are releasing our next EP, “1996” in March 2020 and we are also releasing a single from the EP, “Sarah”, in the beginning of February.
MM: What can we expect from Poison Oak live?
Multiple strings breaking, too much sweat and some rock n roll.
MM: What do you like best and worst about touring
Playing the shows is my favourite part, however, the worst part if the consisted moving and being away from home.
MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies
Violent Soho, Gang of Youths and The Black Keys.
MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why
Rage Against the Machine in 2007, I guess it was the first time they had together in years and the atmosphere was incredible.
MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with Poison Oak
Getting all five band members together in the same room to practice at the same time.
MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time
I don’t have two favourites, but two of my favourites are ‘Wide Awake It’s Morning’ – Bright Eyes and Odessy Number 5 Powderingfinger.
MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have people watching you?
Yeah I do somewhat, I remember being very anxious but it was a great experience to finally to have people watching though.
MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.
Led Zeppelin, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Rage Against the Machine
MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other person
Led Zeppelin, as group people, would be my pick.
MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?
Enjoying band back practice and enjoying the process of constructing songs. I don’t think that will ever change
MM:If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?
1979 – Smashing Pumpkins, big fan of the nineties and the band.
MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band
That’s hard question to answer really, it’s hard trying to sell yourself, you kind of want the music do that for you. However, if you like Australian indie rock with punk, then get on aboard.
