Release: 7th February 2020
Okay this happens sometimes.. I did the Review and my PC crashed on me, without saving ..ugh! So had to Review this again. I am kind of glad as this the Tenth Album by God Dethroned is already one of my Favourite releases this year and so it’s a pleasure to do the Review another time..lol!
For those already familiar with these Dutch titans of Blackened Death Metal you will know they have in recent times concentrated their work on the Great War, while being awesome and intense many of their fans have wanted them to return to writing about and revisiting their Anti-Christian roots and here we have it with “Illuminati”.
From start to finish this is a raging colossus of an opus opening with the title track “Illuminati” Henri Sattler’s growls and roar send pin pricks of ecstasy up and down your spine as his Guitar and Dave Meesters axe envelope you and shake the walls as the thudding rhythm section of Jeroen Pomper on Bass and Michiel Van Der Plicht (Drums) lay waste to your senses, it’s easy to see why this song has already been released its devilishly addictive as is the stunning Video which sees a undead assassin destroying a predatory Priest.
Love the deep and nasty Bass and venomous Vocals on one of favourite tracks “Broken Halo” as Angels weep and necks are strained, this is face melting and vicious as you chant the chorus. Then we come to “Book of Lies” that’s sees said book burst into flames as these Dutch masters take you through the journey of forced conversion this brutal enigmatic piece may leave listeners shell shocked as will many other tracks contained on here.
God Dethroned fans will be amazed as they have experimented on this opus without losing their vicious bite and many more surprises are to come as we delve deeper into this work of exceptional art.
Now a days peoples belief in God and Satan have greatly diminished but “Spirit of Beelzebub” delves into the fact that Satan is real and his wicked ways still influence and impact on the world. The delirious tones and machine gun drums smash you in the face this is another track I keep replaying, this is such an addictive piece.
“Satan’s Spawn” has a cataclysmic atmosphere, the satanic lyrics and the sheer brutality will leave you breathless. “Gabriel” is based on the movie “The Prophecy” which is about a second war in Heaven, the tones are impactful and again you will be hitting the repeat button as this embeds itself in your skull. “Eye of Horus” is an intense song with Metal choirs and a tsunami of delights and yes a different edge to their sound.
We get a brief respite before final track “Blood Moon Eclipse” explodes and decimates your brain cells, a furious end to an Album that does not waiver one iota as far as quality goes!
I would say everything on Illuminati even down to the amazing artwork by Polish master Michał 'Xaay' Loranc (Nile, Evocation) features some of God Dethroned’s most herculean efforts to date.
