Famous Strangers Interview 13/07/2025
MM: Tell us about your band, your influences, and what
took you down this genre of music.
This band is Famous Strangers and we came together maybe a year or
two ago after years of playing in other bands. We’ve all been part of the
scene for a long time and knew each other through other projects or from
crossing paths over the years. As far as genre, it’s hard to pin down
because we are very open to all kinds of music. We don’t like boxing
ourselves in. We write what we feel in the moment. As for influences,
everything in life can be an influence. But musically, some names that
come to mind for this band are Dio, Hailstorm, Judas Priest, Tool, Pink
Floyd, and The Beatles. That variety kind of reflects how wide open our
sound is.
MM:Are there any themes or messages you aim to convey
through your music?
Absolutely. We always want to spread a message of love and worth. We
want people to know they are incredible just the way they are. And sure,
sometimes we have darker lyrics, because life can be dark too. But even in
the heavy stuff, the idea is to fire people up, like when you're pushing
through a workout or fighting through a hard moment. We want to lift
people up, inspire them, and give them a journey they can connect with.
MM: What can we expect from you in the near future, new
music, tours, collaborations?
We’ve got a lot coming. We’re releasing more music and working on an EP.
We just dropped the video for our latest single “LSC” and we’re playing
shows like Loud As Hell, Grave Mass, and hitting places like Armstrong and
Calgary. We’ve also got some great ideas for future collaborations and
visuals, and we’re constantly creating. This is just the beginning
MM: Are there any dream venues or festivals you’d love to
play?
Oh yeah, definitely. Rock am Ring, Wacken, Download, Hellfest. We’d love to
hit all those iconic stages. But honestly, we’d love to play anywhere,
everywhere. Coachella, Burning Man, whatever. There’s no limit. I want to
bring our music to every kind of crowd and just be part of the scene on all
levels.
MM: What’s been your most memorable live performance
so far and why?
That’s a tough one because every time we hit the stage together
something magical happens. But I’d say the show in Drumheller at the
Neighbour’s Pub really stands out. There was something so intimate and
powerful about that night. Also our headline show on May 10th at the
Starlite Room was huge. We had glow sticks, balloons, all ages, it was just
fun and full of good energy. Every show feels like a new high with this
band.
MM: How do you prepare for a show both mentally and
physically?
Physically, I’ve been doing treadmill runs, working out, yoga, and vocal
warmups. I’m trying to build the kind of stamina where I can run and sing
at the same time without losing stage presence or vocal control. Mentally,
it’s a whirlwind. I get a lot of anxiety before shows, so I focus on turning
every thought into a good one. I don’t talk much on show days, and I try to
stay grounded. Right before we go on, we do a band huddle and just
appreciate the moment together. That helps set the tone and lets me
transform when I step on stage.
MM:What emotions do you hope to evoke in fans when
they watch your band live?
Love, unconditional love for themselves and others. I want people to feel
worthy, to feel strong, and to push through their own struggles. I want
them to feel inspired, motivated, and even a little scared in a good way,
like they're going somewhere deep inside themselves. I hope they leave
feeling better than when they arrived.
MM:Do you have any favorite pre-show rituals?
Jack Daniels, though I don’t recommend it for the voice! We also do a band
huddle where we come together, check in with each other, and appreciate
where we are. It grounds us and helps us be fully present for the show.
MM: How do you handle criticism or comparisons to other
bands in the scene?
Honestly, we try not to compare ourselves to anyone. Music is art, and art
comes from the soul. Everyone’s expression is unique. We do what we do
from the heart and let the rest speak for itself. If people want to compare,
that’s fine, but we’re focused on making music that’s true to us.
MM:Which one of your songs means the most to you and
why?
I was going to say “Stars,” because that song took an experience of mine
and turned it into something that healed me. But honestly, “Deep Star”
means the most because it was the very first song we wrote together as
Famous Strangers. It was the beginning of something special and it still
holds that energy for me.
MM: Which songs are your favorite to play and which gets
requested the most?
“Stars” is probably our most requested song right now. And as far as
playing live, I really love “LSC.” But to be honest, I love playing every song
with this band. Each one brings something different, and I enjoy them all
for what they are. Playing with these people makes it all feel like magic.
MM: What is the creative process like for the band and
what inspires you to write your music?
It usually starts with a riff. Jeff and Beej jam something out, Braden throws
in bass, and it starts to shape itself. Then I come in with lyrics and
melodies, and from there, the whole thing grows into something we all
contribute to. The song can change a lot before it’s done, even after we’ve
played it live. We always trust our instincts and let the song evolve until it
feels right. Inspiration comes from everything…life, emotions, our friends,
the scene, and sometimes just the energy in the room.
MM: What kinds of messages do you like to get across in
your music?
That you are worthy and incredible just the way you are. We want to light a
fire in people and help them feel strong, empowered, and inspired. Our
music is meant to push you forward, whether you're grinding through your
day, chasing a goal, or just needing something to hold onto. We want to
take people on a journey and give them something meaningful to carry
with them.
MM: Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and
how do you get past them?
Not really. We’re very communicative and open with each other. Sure,
sometimes things get stressful or we’re having a bad day, but we always
work through it. If anything comes up, we talk it out. There’s a lot of love
and mutual respect in this band. We’re a family and that means everything.
MM: What are your plans for the future, and do you have
anything that you want to spotlight that is upcoming?
We’ve got a lot on the horizon—new singles, more music videos, a new EP,
fresh merch, and tons of live shows. We’re constantly creating and
growing. Our official music video for “LSC” just dropped and we’re really
proud of that. Stay connected with us at famousstrangersband.com and
