Burning Witches
Title: Inquisition
Label: Napalm Records
Release Date:22nd August 2025
"Inquisition" is a righteous, riff-scorched proclamation hammered into shape by five disciples of molten steel and unapologetic fury.
Burning Witches don’t just play heavy metal. They bleed it, brand it, and burn it into your skull with delight and spite.
First, let's delve into the band:
Laura Guldemond. She doesn't sing; she summons. Vocals laced with wildfire and vengeance, she channels every cursed soul. Her delivery is both sermon and scream.
Romana Kalkuhl Riff, architect and high priestess of precision. Her rhythms drive the record like a war machine dripping in gothic oil. Then there's the electrifying Courtney Cox. Her solos seethe with sorcery and shred. She conjures the ghosts of Maiden, Mercyful Fate, and Dio, and sends them headfirst into a blaze of metal delirium. Lala Frischknecht Unrelenting. The drums don’t just hit, they destroy.
Her rhythm work throughout this opus feels like thunder cracking a cathedral in half, wrapped in a ritualistic celebration.
Jeanine Grob: The dark root of the whole incantation. Her lines stalk beneath the surface like vipers waiting for the bite.
This new release from The Burning Witches is a faultless, riff-scorched work of art hammered into shape by five disciples of molten steel and unapologetic fury.
"Sanguini Hominum" opens this Metal dream as the altar cracks beneath this opener. Lalas' drums beat hard, as the monks from hell do their incantation. "Soul Eater" kicks in your teeth. Courtney's solos screech like damned souls clawing at heaven’s gates, and Jeanine’s bass rumbles like a coffin being nailed shut. "Shame" Laura spits venom, not verses. This is the sound of regrets dragged by their hair into the fire as we chant the song title, with clenched fists punching the skies. The tracks continue to amaze the listener as "The Spell of The Skull" bleeds from your speakers, each drum strike a stake to the chest.
The title track “Inquisition” is not a song, it's A rite of purging. Chants echo like possessed villagers circling flame. Steel meets sanctity, a favourite of mine and has been played loads since I first heard it, and will continue, so it's a metal anthem to please the masses and is going to be massive live! Laura ascends her throne as "High Priestess of the night," unleashing into the world, Moonlight twisted into steel. Lala’s rhythm throbs like temple drums. An anthem for the eternally exiled. "Burn In Hell" Jeanine’s Bass stalks as Romana and Courtney carve riffs into damnation, and Laura's voice sounds like she's baptizing Lucifer.
Theres a chance to catch your breath as the delicious "Release Me" sees solos wail like banshees and the drums pound as this Metal ballad rocks your very being. Riffs shred as Laura the lyrical Grim Reaper whispering your fate then screaming it!
"In the Eye of the Storm" Stillness doesn’t exist here. It teases calm before throwing you into chaos. A sonic cyclone of thunderous guitars and vocals that scar the sky. The storm doesn’t pass. It sets up camp. "Mirror, Mirror" You’ll wish it was shattered. Harmonies twist like broken minds whispering truths. Laura becomes the voice you fear in your head the one urging you to burn everything. "Malus Magas" Final rite.
Cloaked in Latin, soaked in sulphur.
Burning Witches didn’t release an album they dragged twelve sonic demons to the surface.
This release is a most have and easily one of the releases of the year!
