                                                                             Underwing Interview  19/11/19

MM: Which two tracks would you play me  to introduce us to your Band

Magnus: I would introduce you to Kaela (the title track from our first EP “Kaela Upsweep”) and Sunless Seed. Actually, I would probably have shown you the music video for Sunless Seed, because video killed the radio star, and it remains dead 😉You can watch that here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TccwI2ALUEk

MM: Can you give us details on tours/festivals for the rest of the year and going into 2020.

Magnus: Actually, we have a gig tomorrow (November 16th) in Tvedestrand, which is a town in southern Norway pretty close to our own hometown. That means there wont be a long drive, and that’s good because most of us are feeling ill these days..typical flu-season here in Norway. Other than that, we’ve got a gig here in Arendal on the 6th of December – but it’s pretty quiet this time of year, especially now since we’re in the midst of writing new material for our upcoming debut-album. Next year will be pretty crazy tho, more on that later ;)

MM: What can we expect from  Underwing  live?

A well oiled machinery of high-energy rock n roll!Or.. If Black Sabbath and Alice in Chains had a lovechild that was adopted by Tool, who coincidentally lived next door to Soundgarden and Motorpsycho, the result would be Underwing.

MM: Can u tell me what do you like best about touring And worst?

Magnus;

Best: Playing our songs live in front of an audience, being on the road with my best friends, seeing new places.Worst: Limited amount of restful sleep, not being able to eat as healthy as one might want ( a lot of fast food, haha!).

MM: Who would be your ultimate bands to tour with

Magnus: Kvelertak, Tool, Gojira, Avenged Sevenfold – to name a few.

MM: With so many Bands out there..How do you intend to stand out from the others?

Magnus: We have a very unique musical expression that I havent heard anyone else do as well as we do. Other than that, we’re not just a band but a whole media collective, taking other arts and crafts under our wings as we go. We’re also genuine about who we are as individuals through our musical journey – and I can tell you there are a LOT of people who aren’t. Honesty goes a long way. We also like to include our fans in decisions regarding the band, to get that feeling of community. It’s very important.

MM: When did you first realise you had such a musical talent and do you remember your first ever performance

Magnus: Although I’m musically talented, I’m no virtuoso on my instrument. I’m a very dedicated young gentleman though, if I should say so myself. My first ever performance was in 5th grade, I sang “I’m just a gigolo” by David Lee Roth for a girl that I liked at the time – that's pretty rock n’ roll, it’s even on YouTube still.

MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why?

Magnus: Oooh, tough question – but I remember me and a very dear friend of mine went to see a band called Half Moon Run in Oslo a couple of years ago or something, I don’t know if they’re still around but they were really good!

MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with Underwing?Magnus: It’s very hard to point out just one, but having a huge crowd sing along to the intro of our track Kaela (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c60-SXdHuy8) was definitely one hell of an emotional roller coaster for me – that song means everything to me.

MM:  Which are your Two favorite  albums of all time and what they have meant to you personally

Magnus: Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles – I did acid (LSD) once while listening to the whole album and it just became the soundtrack of my life after that, weird shit. Other than that, I need to point out “An awesome wave” by the band Alt-J – and I am sure our frontman Enyeto is giving me the nod of agreement on this one. In the summer of 2014, Enyeto and the love of his life decided to move into the woods with their cats to stay there for the summer, and we listened to this album a lot under the stars with a bonfire and good friends among us – It is one of my favorite summers so far.

MM: Where would you like to see yourselfs in 5 years time ?

Magnus: On stage, in front of thousands of screaming fans – we're coming!!

MM: Four words to describe Underwing?Magnus; Well-oiled progressive grunge (is that three words?)
