The Haptics Inteview 20/11/24
MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences
We’re The Haptics from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and we play post-
punk. Some of our biggest influences are Joy Division, Nirvana, Iggy Pop, and
Interpol.
MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from
Every song is unique but I like to draw often from my own past experiences. The
lyrics are always quite personal but I like to address universal experiences and
feelings as well.
MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song ?
My favourite song of ours is “Zeroes”. I wrote the lyrics in memorandum for a girl who
passed away in a Berlin, Germany hospital while I was there. The lyrics take you on
a story about mental illness, challenges, and loss. I find the music quite beautiful in
that one.
MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2023
We’re working on our newest album and will likely release it in the Spring or Summer
of next year. No tour dates booked yet but that is subject to change! We will likely
play a show for our album release, as well.
MM: What can we expect from (The Haptics) live
We like to bring a lot of energy to our live shows! We’re constantly trying to one-up
ourselves with our performances.
MM: What do you like best and worst abt touring
I love hanging out with the boys in the band and bumming around while we wait to
play. But I personally hate the car time, I get motion sickness while driving so cannot
read or look at my phone. Podcasts all the way!
MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies
Local bands I’ve love to play with include Wire Spine and Cosmetics. We’d love to
open for New Order or Bauhaus next time they come around town!
MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and
why
I saw Bauhaus last year (2023) in San Francisco, CA and it was amazing. Great goth
crowd, everyone super friendly, and Peter Murphy killed it on stage. Everyone was
singing along and it was super good vibes.
MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with
I’m really proud of our last EP, “Zero Gravity”. I think the songs turned out great and
I’m proud of the production on that release.
MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time
The eponymous “Garbage” by Garbage and “Power, Corruption & Lies” by New
Order.
MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have
people watching you?
I was so nervous! I remember my first show was my solo electronic project, back in
Brooklyn, NY where I used to live. I was so scared to be up there in front of
everyone! But everyone was super supportive.
MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.
I had a Nirvana poster, a Nirvana desktop picture, and a Nirvana shirt.
MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other
person
Maybe Chuck Berry or Jimi Hendrix.
MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?
We want to keep having fun and being inspired by the things we’re making! If we
don’t like it, we leave it.
MM:If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?
I’ve always wanted to do a post-punk version of “Toxic” by Britney Spears. I think
that would be so fun.
MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band
Support your local independent band! It means a lot to us seeing familiar faces at our
shows and seeing people in our merch. It keeps the fire alive for us and other
musicians to know people are listening and caring about what we’re putting out
there. I think we offer a pretty unique and cool version of post-punk that is worth the
listen.
MM: Four words to describe (The Haptics)
Dark
Melodic
Alternative
Post-punk
