Tamala Park Book Club Interview  07/08/24

MM: Can you tell us about your Band and whos your biggest influences
We’re a four-piece rock band from Perth, Australia. We live for writing music, recording music and playing concerts. Our influences range from the Beach Boys to In Hearts Wake, and all in between. Good music comes in all sounds and vibes, from hard and heavy to soft and mellow. That’s the music we enjoy and that’s the music we write.

MM: Where do you draw your inspirations and ideas from
Personal experiences, such as the pull-on-your-heartstrings ‘Mistake’, or made-up narratives like the pop-punk, tongue-in-cheek ‘Ginger’.

MM: What would you say is your Bands favourite song ?
‘Soap’ is a fan-favourite, and one we like playing live. Of course, our favourite song is always the one we are to release next!

MM: Plans tour and festival wise for 2023
Festivals are dying in Australia so nothing on the cards just yet lol
We’d love to get over to the eastern coast of Australia and hit up the nightclub scene there. The live music in Sydney seems to be a lot bigger than in Perth.

MM: What can we expect from (Band Name) live
Stand-up comedy with instruments. We’re entertainers and like to have fun on stage. We hope we can have a positive impact on people who are seeing us for the first time.

MM: What do you like best and worst abt touring
Wouldn’t know from personal experience but I suspect being together 24/7 for a long period of time would be amusing at the best of times. We try not to kill each other.

MM: Which three Bands would be your ultimate touring buddies
Short Stack, 5 Seconds of Summer and Stephen Sanchez and his band. Basically, people around our age who I think we’d vibe with. Plus, they all put on a great live show.

MM: What's the most memorable concert you've been to (other than your own) and why
For me (Patrick), Paul McCartney. Dude’s like 80 and was smashing out 3 hour sets. Something to aspire to.

MM: What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far with
Probably being together for as long as we have (6 years!). Most bands quit before they ‘fail’ and I’m proud that we’ve persisted with making music together.

MM: Which are your Two favourite Albums of all time
I’m gonna get roasted by the rest of the boys but Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys and Back To Black by Amy Winehouse. I spin those regularly and neither have a skippable song.

MM: Can you remember the first time you ever played live and how it felt to have people watching you?
It was a disaster. It was in school, we were underprepared and it was bad. A humbling experience and the realisation that I wanted to do this better.

MM: Growing up which Bands posters did you have on your bedroom wall.
My bedroom posters haven’t changed since high school and I have Japanese Visual Kei bands such as the GazettE, vistlip and Versailles on my walls to this day. Plus artworks of the Ramones and Elvis.

MM - Who do you think influenced the world of Metal / Rock more than any other person
For Rock, I’d have to say Buddy Holly. With his band the Crickets, they made the blueprint for many rock bands; the 3-piece guitars, bass and drums group. He was the songwriter, arranger, producer and artist at a time where that was almost unheard of. He was killed in a plane crash in 1959, well in his prime without ever peaking. I don’t think we can begin to imagine how much music we’ve missed out on without him living up to his full potential.

MM - What's the most important thing to the band right now?
That people listen to our upcoming single ‘Dream On’ that is due for release on the 6th of September!

MM:If you could do a cover of any song which one would it be and why?
I reckon we’d be able to do a gnarly, metalcore cover of ‘Good Luck, Babe’ by Chappell Roan.

MM: Tell us why we should buy and listen to your Band
If you want to buy us, DM me.
In all seriousness, we’re not re-inventing the wheel with our music. Our sound is unique to us drawing on all our influences together, but familiar enough for the average music listener to enjoy. Our catalogue is quite varied so you’re bound to find something you like. You won’t know unless you try!

MM: Four words to describe Tamala Book Club
Pop punk with breakdowns?

Final Words for your fans and our readers
We appreciate all your kind words of encouragement. We’ve got a lot more music to show you this year and we’re excited to keep growing as a band. Thank you for your support.
