From San Antonio Texas, we have a catchy, melodic, metal band with some hard core influences called Memory of a Melody, who have delivered a super debut album, it rocks and definitely rolls.  It’s an album full of biting, hard assed tunes that not only invigorates, it gets into your head and stays there and won’t leave you conscience for days!

'Mask' kicks off the proceedings and immediately shows the bands pedigree, with Mario Galdos' vocals showing MoM mean business, and Wade Sigue on lead guitar / vocals adding an extra bit of hostility.  'Mask' takes you and batters your senses.  'Til Death Do Us Part' is a mixture of heaviness and melodic hardcore, it's punchy and dynamic, it twists and curves into being one of my favorite tracks on here.  It is radio friendly rock with menace.

The title track 'Things That Make You Scream' opens up slowly then steps up a gear and will have you screaming back at your stereo, as this song makes you screech and test your own vocal chords, it's pretty damn fine!  'Pieces' is damn epic for the shortest track on here.  The drums are annihilated by Robin Lopez and heavy laden bass from Joel Martinez bombards you and creates a mosh-pit in your head.  The same can be said for 'Intersections'.  I love the swirling guitars from Roel Castillo and the other guitarists on this track, hell yeah this band Rawk!

'Break Away' has a change in tempo and I just love the lyrics to this tune.  The band show their immense skills and diversity.  A track without the screaming effect and it should be climbing the charts worldwide!  'Skin Deep' is the longest track on here and opens with an acoustic guitar and like the previous track, it digs into your very being.  The band have a full-blooded number here, it’s a get your lighters out kind of tune.  It’s quite stunning.

After the previous mellow track, things are stepped up as 'My Darkest Hour' and the insanely captivating 'Reach', spine-tingling guitar riffs are the order of the day on 'Reach', it's different and enjoyable.  'Ultra Violence' is what it is.  A foreboding number with killer vocals and insanity.  'The Core' is well, what can I say, in a word it's excellent!  The song builds and builds, and finishes with a vengeance as Galdos delivers some vicious vocals to finish the song.  Again … Excellent!  Final tune 'Truth in Lies' is heavy, bad and a metallic instrumental and quite fabulous.

To sum up, this album is diverse and really does not disappoint in the slightest, so go and grab a memory; the melody will certainly stay in your head!

Biography:

"I used to look at the world with blue eyes, I used to love with an open heart but I was naive, the world needed to show itself to me. I got angry for my weakness and angry with the world. In the darkest swirls of my mind I got stronger and meaner and started to change. I worked with my fear and I became DARK SARAH. I´m not bitter I´m just bitter sweet."

- Dark Sarah-

This certainly has not been an easy album to review.  Simply because of the style in which it was produced. The constantly evolving landscapes are painted with dramatic tones which in turn try to manipulate the senses and to a certain degree they do, but not in the way you might expect.

Obviously, being cinematic and film laden each track does tell its own story, but like with every book, people need to be drawn into it, and there isn’t a lot to draw yourself into on this album.

“It isn’t an album you can throw into the CD player and feed off its frenzy, growling into a makeshift microphone and giving the neighbours hell!  It is very sophisticated and although sung and played to the band’s impressive best, it cannot in any way shape or form be labelled a ‘metal’ album except in parts – Check out ‘Hunting the Dreamer!"

There are too many embellished plots, too much confusion and for me not enough metal to make this album worth owning.

It isn’t to be cruel that I have said those things either, as it does possess a dramatic quality and does have its high points, be them in small amounts, but even with all its drama and frills it doesn’t quite scratch the itch, being too much in favour of opera and that is something that I have to admit, I probably never will truly get the hang of.

If you like cinematic opera themed albums then you will love this in its entirety with all its ethereal surprises and spiritual revelations, but if you are like me, then you need something to bite on to fully awaken the senses and shroud them in a metal embrace!

There is only thing I can think of for this band to truly hit the heights, and that is for them to draft in another vocalist, who spews out guttural secretions that would blend perfectly into Dark Sarah’s world and throw it into a bit of chaos, so adding another dimension into the frame.

That way this album would shine like a beacon for me, to have two extreme opposites would give the band a highly enjoyable facet to work on and open new and exciting avenues, whereby it just seems to run in never ending circles.
